Must do before and after Change of Command:

For the change of command you must start preparing  yourself and the Supply SGT, 3 to 6 months ahead of time, depending of the condition of the Supply Room. By the condition I mean Property Accountability!

  1. Request a Tailor List Print Out Of your Property Book equipment: (This is an index of equipment publications tailor made for your unit) Here's how to get a list:

If your unit uses the Standard Property Book System Redesign(SPBS-R) have your Property Book Officer prepare an MS-DOS floppy disk version of your unit's hand receipt .  Send the disk to:

Commander

USAMC Logistic Support Activity

ATTN: AMXLS-AP (EOPDB/LIDB)

Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898-7466

Your Unit can also request a copy of the LOGSA EQUIPMENT DISK by e-mail : eopdb@logsa.army.mil or from the above address.

2. Check that your Supply SGT has the most up to date Publicatons in ref. your (Tailor List).  If not, start ordering the EMs (Electronic Manuals). You can get a list of the EMs using the LOGSA web site, or you can print the Manuals using the LOGSA on line library of all EMs. If using the online library you must request authorization.

3. After you acomplish step 1 and 2, you can have your Supply SGT start updating all Component Lists in your ULLSS4 Box. If your unit is using manual hand receipts, you should have your Supply SGT verify and update all shortage annexes and component listings.  Your unit should not be using manual hand receipts any more, this is just in case you are!

4.  Now you have all of your paperwork updated IAW the lastest Technical Manual or Supply Catalog.  Next, have all your subhandreceipt holders update and sign their hand receipts and component listings.  Also, let the SHR holders know to do the same with all equipment they have hand receipted down.  Everything must reflect what you, the commander, have (quantity wise).  Even though it may look very simple, it is very time consuming and requires a lot of dedication from the Supply SGTs.  It also involves help from the SHR holders, because they are the ones that use the equipment on a daily basis.  If you follow these steps, you will have smooth change of command inventories.

5.  Now that you are in command and having fun, you probably forgot about inventories.  Most likely you will not even worry about them until you are a couple months from leaving.  Well, I will tell you from experience, don't neglect monthly inventories.  You can appoint someone else to do them for you (not recommended), but no one will take care of your property with the same "love" as you.  Now that you have done all of these inventories and have achieved high standards in property accountability, your next step is to have your Supply SGT start ordering all the shortages that were noted during the COC inventories.  By the time you leave, you should have at least 90% filled (be sure that your component listing keeps getting updated when needed or with each change of TMs or SCs).

Article on Reducing Processing Time on Surveys: CW4 Leslie Carroll

It's The Soldier

It's the soldier, not the reporter
Who has given us freedom of the
PRESS.

It's the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of
SPEECH.

It's the soldier, not the campus
ORGANIZER,
Who has given us the freedom to
DEMONSTRATE

It's the soldier, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a
FAIR TRIAL.

It's the soldier who salutes the flag,
Serves under the flag
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.

Father D. E. O'Brien
